Thousands of Manulifers step out to “Walk for Millions” for families in need

January 23, 2018

Hong Kong — For the 23rd consecutive year, Manulife has come out in support of the annual Walk for Millions charity drive. More than 2,000 agents, employees and friends and family members made the 10 km walk last weekend to raise funds for the social welfare agencies that provide family and child welfare services under the umbrella of the Hong Kong Community Chest.

Participants left Hong Kong Stadium in a joyous mood, which was sustained as they passed through Wong Nai Chung Gap Road, Black’s Link and Aberdeen Reservoir Road to finish at Aberdeen Country Park Visitors Centre. Members of the Manulife management team handed out refreshments at designated stops to show their appreciation and support.

Guy Mills, Chief Executive Officer of Manulife Hong Kong, commented: “With a vision of building a caring society, Manulife is committed to serving those in need in our community. I am very proud of the social responsibility demonstrated by so many Manulifers in supporting this worthy cause year after year. It is also an opportunity for people to get out and enjoy our beautiful countryside.”

Manulife has so far been awarded the “Challenge Cup - Overall Top Fund-raiser” nine times, with a total of more than HK$16 million raised. In addition, the number of Manulife participants has trebled over the years, making the Walk for Millions one of the most popular annual charity events for Manulifers.

Wilton Kee, Chairman of Manulife’s Walk for Millions Organizing Committee, said: “We are delighted that our employees and agents consistently embrace the Walk for Millions event. Their devotion to giving back to the community and helping those in need resulted in another successful turn-out this year and re-affirmed our long-standing support for this very worthwhile cause.”

All funds raised through Walk for Millions go to support 24 Community Chest member organizations in providing family and child-welfare services that encourage closer bonds within disadvantaged families.

More than 2,000 company agents and employees and their families and friends joined the walk  to raise funds for the Community Chest.

Senior executives served food and drinks to the walkers at the midway point.
