  • Expanded network now covers over 3,000 listed hospitals across Mainland China
  • First life insurer in Hong Kong to offer network coverage for all of China's Grade III public hospitals
For Immediate Release

June 21, 2023

TSX/NYSE/PSE: MFC     SEHK: 945

HONG KONG – Manulife Hong Kong announced today the expansion of its Designated China Hospital Network from 1,700 to over 3,000 listed hospitals across Mainland China. This makes Manulife the market leader1 with the most extensive coverage of these hospitals, and the first2 life insurance company in Hong Kong to provide its customers with a network that covers all of China's Grade III public hospitals. The expansion aims to meet the growing demand for health and protection services following the full reopening of borders between Hong Kong and the Mainland China.

Manulife's expanded network now covers all Grade IIIB and IIIC public hospitals, in addition to the previous coverage of all Grade IIIA public hospitals. Located in almost 300 Mainland cities, these hospitals are widely recognized in China's three-tier system for providing top-tier public medical care, featuring experienced medical staff, professional specialist care, and advanced medical equipment. By providing customers access to this network, Manulife ensures they have easy access to the best medical and healthcare services available across the country.

In addition, the expanded network covers a selection of Grade I and Grade II public hospitals, as well as private hospitals, providing customers access to comprehensive medical services with extra geographical convenience. It offers a wide range of services including acute injuries treatment, vaccination arrangements, preventive care, chronic disease management, specialist care services, rehabilitation, traditional Chinese medicine treatment, and medical check-ups.

Carrie Tong, Chief Operations Officer of Manulife Hong Kong and Macau, said: “We are proud to be the first life insurer in the market to cover all Grade III public hospitals in our expanded network. Our network leads the market with the most extensive coverage of hospitals in the industry. The expansion demonstrates our strong commitment to catering to the diverse healthcare needs of customers residing in, or travelling to, Mainland Chinese cities, offering them access to a wide range of medical specialties and treatment options.”

Enhanced pre-approval cashless service to offer extra convenience

Manulife is also working to expand its pre-approval cashless service partner network, which will cover over 3,100 hospitals across major cities in Mainland China. Upon pre-approval, customers are not required to pay up front as the billing will be directly settled by Manulife. This allows customers to focus on treatment and recovery without worrying about medical bills and to better budget their medical costs.
