Hong Kong – In light of the pandemic, which led to a reduction in physical activity for many children across Hong Kong as schools were periodically suspended, Manulife has announced its second “MOVE for GOOD” Challenge to help and encourage underprivileged kids to be more active during the summer holiday, and ‘move’ their way to better health and wellbeing. MOVE for GOOD is one of Manulife’s key CSR initiatives, which motivates MOVE members to combine physical fitness with charitable giving for the betterment of society.
This summer, Manulife is inviting its MOVE members to collectively walk 100 million steps. When this goal is achieved, Manulife will partner with St. James' Settlement to donate 1,000 pairs of sports shoes to disadvantaged children across 25 primary schools in Hong Kong before the summer holiday.
“With our ‘MOVE for GOOD’ initiative, our mission is to promote a happier and healthier society by combining physical exercise with meaningful social causes. Small actions can lead to big changes, and we believe that exercise is one of the most empowering tools that can inspire and motivate others,” said Isabella Lau, Manulife Hong Kong’s Chief Customer Officer. “The closure of schools and parks, and the cancellation of various sports classes over the last year because of the pandemic meant many children haven’t been getting the exercise they need. By inviting ManulifeMOVE members to participate in this latest challenge, we aim to create a ripple effect that inspires people to stay active, and encourages underprivileged children to move their way to healthier lives.”
New “MOVE for GOOD” Overview
Registration Period | Challenge Period | Step Goal | Benefits for the needy |
June 25 – July 2 | July 3 - 6 (4 days) | 100 million steps | 1,000 pairs of new sports shoes for underprivileged children from 25 primary schools in Hong Kong |
Josephine Lee, Chief Executive Officer of St. James’ Settlement, said: “We’re excited to team up with Manulife once again to help underprivileged children in Hong Kong. In addition to academic study, we are concerned about their health under pandemic. With this initiative, we hope to encourage children to take up regular physical activity in their daily lives from a young age to maintain both physical and mental health.”
This challenge is the second wave of Manulife’s “MOVE for GOOD” initiative, which was first launched in February this year to bring together ManulifeMOVE members for charitable causes. The last challenge successfully saw members accumulate 360 million steps and help donate more than 2,200 meals to the needy over the Chinese New Year period.
First launched in 2015, ManulifeMOVE rewards customers in Hong Kong with premium discounts for being active and achieving set goals. MOVE members can get discounts on eligible policies for meeting daily average step goals: 5,000 steps per day to receive a 5% premium discount; 7,000 steps per day to receive a 7% discount; and a 10% premium discount for MOVE members who average a minimum of 10,000 steps per day.
